2007 AC Cobra
This 2007 AC Cobra is an all-sorted recreation of the British-American muscle car icon. It is powered by a 5.8-litre 351 Windsor V8 engine which outputs 223kW to the rear wheels through a five-speed Tremec manual transmission. This project has been built over a number of years and presents as a turn-key example, with only 5,482km showing on the odometer.
In the early 1960s British manufacturer AC Cars was on the hunt for a new engine to put inside its Cobra sports car, after original supplier Bristol ceased production. Retired American racer and car designer Carroll Shelby suggested marrying a Chevrolet engine to the Cobra, but Chevrolet declined for fear the car would compete too closely with the Corvette. Carroll Shelby and AC Cars found a matching suitor in Ford, which supplied its small block Windsor V8 engine with a desire to compete with Chevrolet’s Corvette. The AC Cobra took the world by storm, and a number of iterations and recreations have been produced since – much like this example.
This car features white exterior paintwork with double gold stripes over a black interior. The driver’s footwell has been extended for taller drivers, comfortably fitting its current owner who is 190cm tall – many other Cobras are cramped and difficult to drive. It features a worked 351 Windsor engine with GT40 heads and a five-speed Tremec transmission that is capable of handling high horsepower. It also equips correct parts for the Cobra model including Smiths gauges, indicator stalk, side-exit exhaust and correct bumpers. It looks and feels as genuine as can be.
The AC Cobra kit was bought by the current owner in 1995 and all parts were sourced over a period of 4-5 years. Doug Pearce’s engineering firm in Lilydale completed the build, which was first registered in 2007. It is now on historic club plates which are not transferrable with the sale.
Exterior condition is very good to excellent. Paintwork has been well taken care of and there are no known nicks, marks or scratches on the bodywork. Some parts of the car such as the exhaust and chrome trim could do with a polish, but otherwise this is a very clean example. All four 15-inch wheels are unmarked and wear Dominator Sports SR4 tyres which are in very good condition.
The interior still presents well with unmarked black carpet and black vinyl racing bucket seats. All gauges are period correct and the woodgrain steering wheel is in fantastic condition and suits the car perfectly. The car has a keyless start system with an immobiliser and GPS tracking device, which will be supplied with the car.
This car has been regularly serviced by its current owner who is a mechanic. It runs well and its mechanical condition is said to be in a very good state.
