2006 Porsche (987) Cayman S
This 2006 Porsche (987) Cayman S is a clean-specification example of Porsche’s second generation mid-engine Cayman sports car. A mid-mounted naturally-aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six-cylinder engine produces 217kW/340Nm, which is delivered to the rear wheels. This car is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It currently shows 163,200km on its odometer since new.
Such was the success of the Porsche Boxster through the late 1990s and into the new millennium that Porsche started thinking about pairing it up with a hard-topped counterpart. The Porsche Cayman was unveiled in 2005 based on the second-generation Boxster design and incorporated many of its parts. However, the fixed-roof Cayman was arguably the more focused driver’s car of the two, with a stiffer chassis and revised suspension that would endure harder cornering impacts. It’s also more usable everyday than the Boxster roadster, with rear hatch access that allows storage on top the engine which slots through into the cabin. The Cayman is now the go-to model in the Porsche line-up for enthusiasts who enjoy a properly-sorted mid-engine drive experience, especially in ‘S’ guise.
This car’s neat specification selects Arctic Silver paintwork on the outside and the cabin is upholstered in brown leather. Few aftermarket modifications take this car away from its condition when delivered new, though it does equip an aftermarket head unit with reverse camera, a suede headlining, and its windows have been tinted. It currently rides on a set of 19-inch Porsche alloy wheels which hide a set of red brake calipers underneath. Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
Built in Germany and delivered new through a Porsche dealership in Bristol, UK, this car was imported to Australia nearly 10 years ago. It has since passed through the hands of four owners. All maintenance has been completed through official Porsche service centres and specialist independents. The most recent service was completed in July 2021 by Auto Coupe Porsche Specialist in Eltham, VIC. The seller notes the car runs as normal and drives beautifully. However, the air-conditioning is not working currently and requires repair.
Exterior condition of this Cayman presents very well considering the car’s mileage. The Arctic Silver paintwork shows in nice order throughout with next to no stone chipping or scratches found on its bodywork. There are no paint swirl marks. The seller mentions the car’s front end was resprayed to rectify some repair work, the roof and bonnet were also repainted at this time. Some minor paint chips are seen around the leading edge of the driver’s door. Some minor curb rash is seen on the left-hand-side wheels but the Michelin tyres retain a deep level of tread.
This car’s nicely-specified cabin shows in good order overall, with wear and tear consistent with the car’s use and mileage. The brown leather seats show minimal creasing and retain a good shape. More obvious scratching and wear is identified on the leather portions that cover the steering wheel and door cards. The car’s centre console controls show scratching and have worn-off in places. The car could benefit from a through interior detail and clean – for fastidious buyers. Brown carpeting and suede headlining show in fine condition.
