THE AUCTION IS UNDER PROXY BIDDING
2006 BMW (E46) M3 Coupe
This 2006 BMW M3 E46 is a rare unmodified, Australian delivered example. Under the bonnet is a naturally-aspirated 3.2-litre inline-six-cylinder engine which outputs 252kW/365Nm to the rear wheels. This example is specified with a six-speed SMG-II automated manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 101,831km.
The BMW M3 is one of the world’s most recognisable sports car nameplates and its dynamic character speaks to the brand’s reputation for building the Ultimate Driving Machine. The M3 can trace its origins back to motorsport homologation beginnings through the 1980s with the E30 M3. This car is the third-generation E46 which brought the model into the 21st century. Much like its E30 forebear, the E46 was raced in motorsport across the world, most notably winning its class in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in 2004 and 2005. Though there were many technological advancements over previous M3s, the jewel in the crown of the E46 experience is the S54 inline-six engine. With a beautifully sonorous engine note and serious power out of the engine, the E46 has gone down in history as the high point of the M3 timeline.
Painted in the longstanding BMW colour of Carbonschwarz Metallic and specifying a black leather-upholstered interior, this M3’s colour combination will find wide appeal. Being a late-build E46 it features facelifted styling at the front and rear. It also selects a Harman Kardon sound system paired with the factory head unit. This car is completely stock and retains its original colour combination. It rides on a set of 19-inch BMW alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli tyres.
Manufactured new in Germany in October 2005 and delivered new to Bib Stillwell BMW in Melbourne, this M3 has been cared for since new. According to the seller it is now a three-owner car which has been used sparingly in the last four years – the current owner kept it as an investment piece. Much of its servicing history has been completed through BMW dealerships and independent specialists. It has recently had its starter motor replaced, while its airbag recall was also completed by Melbourne BMW in 2020. Most recent maintenance took place at 97,964km where no items of concern were raised.
Exterior condition of this BMW M3 shows in fair order for its age. There are no endemic signs of paint damage to the Carbonshwarz paintwork. However, there are smaller signs of scrape damage at the front left bumper and various hairline scratches at touch points such as the fuel door and door handle. This could be improved with a thorough detail. No major kerb rash is seen on any of the four wheels, but minor points of scuffing is seen on the rear wheels. Tyres appear with a good amount of tread remaining.
Inside the cabin this M3 shows in great shape throughout. There are no tears or elements of fraying seen on the black leather and only minimal crease lines are seen on the driver’s side bolsters. Scuff damage is seen around the transmission tunnel, steering wheel, and sill plates, as expected with use. Carpeting appears without significant stain or damage.
This car will be sold with a suite of supporting service documentation.
