The VZ Clubsport R8 heralds from an era where HSV was pumping out some of its best-ever product. Utilising the same engine out of the Chevrolet C6 Corvette, the Clubsport R8 stocked a competitive level of performance against its contemporaries such as the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG and BMW M5. However, this straight-line performance was backed-up by strong brakes, sorted suspension, and an engaging handling character. This would have qualified it as a competent track day car, though many were relegated to family transport. Finished in Impulse Blue on the exterior and upholstered with black leather on the inside, this car’s original condition is its most valuable asset. Where other examples have succumbed to distasteful modification, this car’s exhaust, suspension and brakes all remain as-factory. It rides on a set of HSV 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

Built in Clayton, VIC in May 2005, this VZ Clubsport has benefitted from thorough care throughout its life. The current owner has held the vehicle since 2017 and it has been used sparingly on weekends. It is described as being in great mechanical condition and has been serviced regularly. Both the body and wheels were repainted in the original colour four years ago. New front brake pads have just been fitted, while this car will also receive a service before it is sold.

Exterior-wise, the condition of this car shows in very good order. The Impulse Blue paintwork glosses beautifully in the sun and shows no obvious chips or imperfections. Exterior trim pieces do show some signs of ageing, though this should be considered normal for the car’s age and mileage. All four wheels are unmarked of curb rash, while the Michelin tyres display in near-new condition.

The cabin has fared relatively well over the car’s lifetime. Black leather upholstery shows in good original shape and shows no obvious rips or tears, though some more obvious creasing is seen on the seat bolsters and some wear on the top of the steering wheel. Some damage is seen in the second row on the back of the centre console and on the speaker of the rear right door. Minor wear and tear is observed around the centre console and shifter in the front row. The dash and door cards of this car look to be in good order.

The car will be sold with a suite of original documentation not including the original service book and the original 18″ spare wheel has been powdered coated with a brand new tyre fitted.
