2003 Mercedes-Benz (R230) SL500
This 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL500 (R230) is a finely cared-for modern classic presenting in a timeless specification. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine outputting 225kW and 460Nm to the rear wheels. A seven-speed sports automatic transmissions allows the SL500 to run from zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds. This example currently shows 79,965km on its odometer since new.
One of Mercedes-Benzes longest-running model lines, the SL nameplate traces its origins back to the original 300SL Gullwing which was designed for sports-touring. The R230 is the fifth-generation SL and was first introduced in 2001. It featured the first metal folding hard-top roof from the SLK, a host of luxurious features and technology, and a lighter-weight body with extensive use of aluminium componentry. Because it’s designed as a two-seater convertible from the ground-up, very little body shake is seen which tends to plague other sedan-based convertibles. The R230 is described as the first Benz SL to incorporate proper sporting characteristics with the nameplate’s legendary luxurious character.
This example is finished in Brilliant Silver over a light grey leather interior with contrast woodgrain trim elements. It’s fitted with appointments such as heated/cooled electric memory seats, Bose surround sound system, 10-disc CD stacker, front and rear parking sensors, auto-levelling suspension, and active body control. It also runs a set of Mercedes-Benz 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres.
Manufactured in Germany in October 2003 and delivered new through Tynan Mercedes-Benz in early 2004, this two-owner SL500 has benefitted from caring ownership throughout its life. It has always been serviced when required at either Mercedes-Benz itself or specialist workshops. The most recent service was completed in March 2021 where regular maintenance was tended to and no items of concern were raised.
As evidenced through the excellently presented Brilliant Silver metallic paintwork, this SL is a very clean car. The paintwork is mostly unmarked with the exception of a mark at the top of the bonnet and a mark in front of the passenger side rear wheel. The Vario Roof functions perfectly every time and can open or close in 16 seconds. There is some minor curb damage to the front passenger wheel, though it’s nothing that distracts from the car’s overall condition. The Pirelli P Zero tyres show a good amount of tread depth remaining.
The interior is best described as immaculate and complete. There are no stains, stress marks, or discolouration of the grey leather seats which still retain their original shape. There is very minor wear on the drivers seat which is appropriate for the age and milage of the vehicle. The seats are fitted with a massage function which functions as it left the factory. Leather trim covering the dash and door tops looks clean and the woodgrain elements are undamaged. The car retains the original floor mats and the COMAND infotainment system operates as normal.
Original items such as medical kit, service booklets, delivery booklets and manuals, as well as three keys (2 fob and 1 emergency) will be supplied with a successful sale. The personalised plates are not included in the sale and will be retained by the owner.
