THE AUCTION IS UNDER PROXY BIDDING
2003 Ducati 999R
This 2003 Ducati 999R is #307 of 500 and is a piece of super bike history, having been kept in immaculate condition as part of a collection. It is powered by a 999cc four-stroke V-twin engine which outputs 102kW/108Nm. This bike features a six-speed sequential manual transmission. It currently shows 9,926km on its odometer.
The Ducati 999R is a top-of-the-line racing specification sport bike which is the closest road-legal alternative to the race bike lined up on the start line by Ducati Corse back in 2003. While a Ducati 999 is a special thing in its own right, the ‘R’ is significant in Ducati’s world by bringing proper upgrades such as carbon-fibre componentry, different bore and stroke and titanium engine internals. It is no simple ‘badge-engineered’ version. For this reason they are incredibly hard to find in good condition, with most owners reluctant to give-up their examples. They are most commonly found as part of collections, like this one was, but finding them on the open market is rare. It’s a bike most at home on a circuit; capable of 0-0-100 km/h in under three seconds and a top speed of over 270 km/h.
This Ducati 999R is finished in classic Ducati red with white accenting. The seat is finished in black. Elements of carbon-fibre componentry are seen on the front guard and the signature gold colour of the Ohlins dampers is prominent. The black wheels feature red pinstriping around the rim and are wrapped in Pirelli tyres. No aftermarket modifications take away from this bike’s original specification. This bike is numbered 307 of 500.
Built new in June 2003, this 999R is certified by an official Ducati plaque confirming its authenticity. The seller believes they are the third owner of the bike overall, after it was imported to Australia in 2017. It has not been ridden while under the current custodian’s ownership, though it is noted as being in good running order. The tachometer was replaced in Italy by Ducati at 9,000km and now shows approximately 980km.
Condition of the bike is very good, with red paintwork showing no swirl marks and reflecting beautifully under light. The seller describes light wear and tear picked up over its 9,000km on the road, though the bike generally appears in fantastic condition. All factory stickers and emblems show in brilliant condition considering the bike’s 19-year-old age. The seat shows without significant wear.
This bike will be sold with an official factory build plate/plaque as well as a genuine factory Ducati bike cover.
