2001 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera
This 2001 Porsche (996) 911 Carrera is an up-and-coming modern classic that doubles as an engaging driving experience. It’s powered by a 3.6-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six-cylinder engine which outputs 235kW/370Nm to the rear wheels. This car is specified with the five-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic function that allows it to run from zero to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds. The odometer on this example currently shows 124,650km from new.
The 996-generation has long flown under the radar as a 911 and is currently enjoying a resurgence to prominence. The move to a water-cooled engine caught enthusiasts off-guard, though this then-new generation debuted a new platform and a number of new technologies that brought the 911 nameplate firmly into the 21st century. Not only is it now being appreciated as a true driver’s 911, but values are starting to creep up alongside other 911 generations which makes this car a relative Porsche bargain. This example is the desirable facelifted version which includes sharper styling and a larger 3.6-litre engine over the pre-update car.
Presented in silver metallic over a black leather interior, this 911’s subdued specification still looks smart to this day. It currently rides on a set of 18-inch five spoke alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. There has been no aftermarket modification to this vehicle, though it specifies factory equipment such as the Bose sound system, climate control, electric seat adjustment with memory function, and sunroof.
Manufactured in Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory in July 2001, this Carrera was delivered new to Australia and has enjoyed a thorough service history since. The current owner believes they are the fourth to have owned this car. Servicing was initially completed through Porsche Melbourne before being moved to independent Porsche specialists such as 9 Plus, Autohaus Hamilton, and PR Technology. The current owner bought the car in April 2020 and only added 2,500km to the odometer since taking delivery. The most recent service addressed regular maintenance items and replaced a coil pack.
The silver paintwork on this car presents largely well for the car’s age, retaining a nice shine in the sun. There is one small dent on the driver’s side door near the mirror, though no paint has been broken. Few other marks can be seen on this complete and original 911. Some minor curb scratching can be seen on the wheels. All four Michelin tyres appear to retain a good amount of tread.
Interior-wise, the black leather upholstery and trim holds up well despite the car’s age. There is some minor creasing and stress marks showing on the seats though the leather is unmarked and the carpets are also clean. Some scratching can be found on the centre console and the gear shifter looks a little tired. One cupholder contains a faulty spring. A suede headliner remains in good condition and all other trim pieces look to be in good condition. All features are understood to be in working condition such as the original sunroof, climate control, and sound system.
This 996 Carrera retains its original took kit, spare wheel, one key, and will be sold with all accompanying documentation.
