2000 Porsche (986) Boxster S

This 2000 Porsche Boxster S is a tidy, low-kilometre example of Porsche’s first-generation mid-engine sports car. It is powered by a 3.2-litre six-cylinder boxer engine outputting 191kW/310Nm to the rear wheels. This car is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission and can sprint from zero to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds. Its odometer currently shows 108,678km.

In the early 90s Porsche needed to follow-up the slow-selling 928 with a win. It began devising a successor using the 356 Speedster and 550 Spyder as inspiration. What followed was the 1993 Boxster Concept, whose name was derived from the “boxer” engine and “roadster” name. The car became a production reality in 1996 around the same time that Porsche consulted with Toyota about rationalising parts among its various models. That strategic change, as well as the introduction of the Boxster model line that stands to this day, helped pull Porsche out of commercial failure.

This particular Porsche Boxster S is finished in Ocean Blue Pearl metallic over a Grey leather interior. It rides on a set of 17-inch Porsche “Turbo Twist” alloy wheels wrapped in a mix of Sailun and Pirelli tyres, with red Porsche brake calipers hiding underneath.

Originally delivered new to the United Kingdom, this car was imported to Australia in 2011. It has been well maintained between a series of Porsche service centres and independent specialists. This Boxster S has had its IMS bearing replaced which is a common issue with 986-series cars. It has also recently benefitted from a new battery, coolant reservoir and a set of fresh front tyres.

Its exterior condition is generally good, with the Ocean Blue Pearl metallic paint still reflecting nicely and changing hues in different light. There’s some slight damage to the exterior, most notably on the underside of bumpers and the fading of badges. It shows a sizeable scratch on the right left quarter near the tail light. The soft-top roof is in good condition and functions as intended. There is some curb rash on some wheels, though tyres remain in great condition overall.

The interior of this Boxster S largely presents in good order, though some aspects look tired. The seats have some stress marks on the bolstering and there is some staining to the original floor mats. Both the shifter and centre console show scratches. Small nicks and marks are present on some of the other trim.

This Porsche Boxster S will be sold with its accompanying service history, original documentation and two keys. It retains its spare tyre and original tool kit. The personalised plate is included in the sale.
