2000 Mitsubishi EVO VI - Tommi Makinen Edition
This 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition first shot to fame as a rally legend but now doubles as a JDM hero. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with outputs rated to 206kW/373Nm. The Evo VI was only available with a five-speed manual transmission. This example currently shows 101,760km on the odometer.
Launched in the late 1990s, the Evolution Tommi Makinen Edition (TME) was a limited run of 2500 high-specification Evolutions to commemorate Finnish rally driver Tommi Makinen’s four World Rally Championship titles. Few other cars of the era were as quick point-to-point as the Lancer Evo, but the TME upped the ante to a higher degree. It was no sticker pack special edition either – it featured additions including a lower ride height, a quicker-spooling titanium turbine blade inside the twin-scroll turbocharger, quicker steering ratio, and extra bracing. Only 100 examples made their way to Australia officially, this example was first delivered to Japan and features the special decals mimicking Tommi Makinen’s rally car livery.
Finished in Scotia White over a black and red interior, this high-spec GSR TME specifies the stripe package and includes a host of mods over and above the TME kit. It has a Trust aftermarket exhaust system, Apexi tuning with 205kW at the wheels, aftermarket intake kit, GFB blow-off valve, HKS coilover suspension, rear Cusco strut brace, Ralliart gear shifter, and Ralliart rear wing blade. This is in addition to items like the monogrammed TME Recaro bucket seats, Momo steering wheel, climate control, Active Yaw Control (AYC), and 17-inch white alloy wheels with red Brembo brakes.
This car was built in March 2000 and was delivered new to Japan that same year. It is understood to have made its way to Australia in late 2010. Recent maintenance and servicing work has been undertaken at V-Spec Performance in Blackburn, Victoria.
The exterior condition of this Evo TME presents very well for its age. The white paintwork is complete, shows no signs of fading and retains all of its original decals. Some of the decals show signs of weathering, though are still complete and not damaged. Other bits of trim present in good order, but could do with a thorough detail to bring out the best in the car. All four Enkei wheels show zero signs of curb rash and the Bridgestone Potenza RE003 tyres retain a good level of tread depth.
Interior-wise, this Evo TME cabin has been very well maintained. There are some very minor signs of use with some scratching to some of the plastics and some discolouration of the seats, but the space is otherwise immaculate. The seats retain their original shape and do not show stress marks or creases. The factory double-din head unit is not supplied with the car along with the service books and spare key which were misplaced by the previous owner.
