1994 Mercedes-Benz (W124) E320 Cabriolet

This 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet (W124) is a beautifully-presented two-owner classic Benz which has been kept in clean condition since new. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 3.2-litre inline-six-cylinder engine which sends 162kW/310Nm to the rear wheels. This car is fitted with a five-speed automatic transmission. It currently displays 140,233km on its odometer since new.

The W124-generation E-Class was first unveiled in 1984 and encompassed a variety of body styles including the standard sedan, a coupe, an estate wagon, long-wheelbase versions, and this car, a cabriolet. The cabriolet was one of the final body styles to be produced along the 13-year production span – just five years were allocated to produce the open-air version. Its facelifted shape features the iconic Sacco planks on the doors amid a host of then-unheard-of features. Much of the W124’s engineering was advanced at the time and the car featured one of the most aerodynamic bodies of its era. The W124 was a prestigious product to own in its era and models these days are just coming back into the limelight thanks to the iconic design features and over-engineered mechanics.

Finished in blue exterior paint with grey lower-third Sacco planks, this W124 cabriolet also specifies a grey interior and matching blue soft-top roof. It presents largely in original specification to when it was new, with no obvious aftermarket additions. It retains the original wind deflector which goes over the interior when the top is down. The car rides on a set of 15-inch Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels which are wrapped in Michelin tyres.

This E320 was built in May 1994 and was delivered new through McIntosh Mercedes-Benz in Sydney’s North Shore later that year. The current owner purchased the vehicle almost one year ago and commissioned a series of works to keep it in tip top shape. A new set of hydraulic rams have been installed and the roof has been re-lubricated. Two services have been carried out recently through the North Coast Star workshop on the Gold Coast, QLD. Maintenance has been completed through official Benz outlets and specialist independents. Its gearbox has been recently reconditioned. On the last service it was estimated the brake pads are 50 per cent worn.

Exterior condition of this W124 presents remarkably well considering the car’s age and mileage.  The blue paintwork shows in good order throughout with next to no marks of damage or scratching to be seen. All exterior trims and plastics show minimal signs of weathering which is normally seen on Benzes of this era. There are some minor scuffs and damage seen on the bumpers. All four wheels were recently refinished and currently show in good condition, while the four tyres are near-new.

Interior condition is similarly excellent. The original seats retain their shape and the leather upholstery is unmarked and uncreased. Door trims and dash display minimal signs of wear and tear while the carpeting shows some minor discolouration commensurate with the car’s age and usage. Woodgrain trim elements appear without flaking or disintegration. The soft-top roof operates as normal and looks to be in fine condition.

This car will come with a series of documentation and two keys.
