1993 Range Rover Vogue SE

This 1993 Range Rover Vogue SE is a mechanically-restored example of an iconic “Classic” Range Rover. Under the bonnet sits a naturally-aspirated 3.9-litre V8 which produces 136kW (182hp). Power is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission with additional dual-range gearing for off-road use. The vehicle currently displays 355,054km on its odometer.

The humble Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) you see gracing our roads today can trace its origins back to the late 1960s when Land Rover unveiled the Range Rover Classic. At the time no other off-roaders could balance good on-road manners with off-road ability. The Range Rover hit the market as a high-riding SUV which could handle both disciplines in comfort. It was also well appointed with luxurious finishings befitting of the British marque. Originally known simply as the Range Rover, the first-generation model was produced from 1970 until 1996, whereby it was then designated as the Range Rover Classic to distinguish it from its successors. The Range Rover Classic is widely accepted on the used car market as an appreciating asset.

Finished in the factory specification of Aegean Blue over a Westminster Grey velour interior, this Range Rover features a lovely period-specific colour combination. The exterior features a TJM black bull bar while the interior equips woodgrain trim inserts. Aside from the bull bar, a set of new springs, and a set of JVC speakers, there are no obvious aftermarket modifications made to this car. The car currently rides on a set of 16-inch painted three-spoke wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres.

This Range Rover was first registered in 1993 and came to be in the seller’s possession around one year ago. It has recently undergone a thorough mechanical restoration which addressed the engine, driveline, suspension, and the undercarriage. Specific work included a new timing chain, engine rebuild with reconditioned cylinder heads, new timing chain, new radiator and thermostat, new ignition system, new gasket set, and rebuilt suspension with new shocks and springs. The undercarriage was also repainted. This work was completed by an experienced Land Rover specialist. The most recent service was completed at 354,000km which included a full transmission service. According to the owner the brakes now need replacement.

Exterior-wise, this Range Rover shows in average condition for its age and mileage. The blue paint is understood to have been resprayed at some point but is beginning to show wear and tear. There are dents and scratches on multiple body panels, while paint scratches and discolouration are seen on trim pieces such as the grille, bull bar, window trims, door handles, and the C-pillars. Some light scratch marks are seen on the wheels, while the tyres retain a good amount of tread.

Inside the cabin this Range Rover’s upholstery shows in fair condition. No obvious fraying is seen on the seat fabric. However, on the rear of the front passenger seat there is a hole in the trim. Carpeting is largely kept in good order, though could do with a thorough clean. No major cracking is seen in the dash and all instrumentation operates as normal. Wear and tear is seen to instrumentation and woodgrain trim.
