1990 Nissan Skyline (R32) GT-R

This 1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) presents an excellent opportunity to purchase a clean and modified JDM hero which has benefitted from a recent respray. Under the bonnet is a single-turbocharged 2.6-litre inline-six-cylinder engine which sends power to all four wheels. A five-speed manual transmission is fitted to this car. Its odometer currently displays 66,685km.

The Nissan GT-R is widely regarded as one of the all-time great JDM classics thanks to its prominence in video games, film cinema, and in underground racing scenes all over the world. But Australians will be most familiar with the model thanks to its success in motorsport, through racing categories such as the Australian Touring Car Championship. It blew away its contemporaries including V8-powered Holden Commodores, fast Fords, and BMW M3s thanks to its powerful straight-six engine, all-wheel traction, and high-tech electronics. The R32 GT-R notably achieved back-to-back wins at Bathurst in 1991 and 1992, with competition organisers subsequently moving to “simplify” homologated entries which favoured Australian-built cars such as the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. The GT-R is highly esteemed among car circles today and prices continue to climb across all Skyline GT-R generations.

Painted in the ubiquitous Gun Grey metallic finish and featuring a black-and-grey interior combination, this car’s period-specific colour combination will appeal to all. The car features a suite of modifications which include a fuel cell, roll cage, Garrett GT35 82 single upgrade, 1100 Bosch motorsport injectors, R35 coil pack, BC coilovers, alloy radiator and twin thermo fans, electric power steering pump, Haltech plug-in ECU, 3.0-inch cat-back exhaust, Nismo-retrimmed seats, and a Veilside instrument cluster. The car rides on a set of 18-inch TE37-style black alloys with Continental tyres.

This Skyline has been built by the current owner over the last two years as a road race/street car hybrid. Dandy Engines in Carrum Downs (VIC) has performed works including a reconditioned head port, fitted group A cams, bronze guides, valve springs, head studs, a Nitto head gasket, and a Nitto oil pump. As is stands the car has been giving intermittent cam sync errors in hot weather (though still drivable). The car will come with an OEM CAS. There is no de-mister, or heater.

Exterior condition of this GT-R shows in good stead overall, especially having been repainted two years ago. The Gun Grey metallic paint displays nicely throughout, though some finer points of stone chipping are seen on the front end. There is a chip in the paintwork above the grille, a crack in the front bar near the headlight, and paint flaking near the number plate. There is also a scratch on the left-hand-side corner of the bumper. The wheels show minor kerb rash and the Continental tyres appear near new.

Inside the cabin there is minimal wear and tear to each of the reupholstered seats, while the dash and steering wheel have both fared well over this car’s lifetime. A black-painted roll cage appears in good condition, as does the headlining and carpeting below. Some plastic trim elements have weathered with age, such as the door handles, but this is considered normal use.
