1990 BMW (E34) M5
This 1990 BMW (E34) M5 is a beautifully-presented ex-Gosford Classic Car museum example, finished in a desirable colour combination. Under the bonnet is a naturally-aspirated 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine, which outputs 232kW/360Nm to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. This E34 M5 can run from zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds and achieve a 250km/h top speed. The odometer of this car currently indicates 69,641 miles since new.
The E34-generation BMW M5 was produced between 1988 and 1995 as BMW’s flagship performance product for the era. Its subtle styling and explosive performance ticks a lot of boxes for Q-car aficionados. Rear-wheel drive layout and a manual gearbox? Check. A powerful straight-six powerplant with individual throttle bodies? Tick. Subdued styling enhancements, BMW Motorsport-fettled suspension and an LSD? Tick. These attributes combine to create a special hand-built performance sedan which is famed for its impressive driving quality and sumptuously-presented interior. Better yet, sensible pricing sees these models trade hands for agreeable prices between enthusiasts.
Finished in BMW-classic Calypso Red over a Champagne leather interior, this M5 shows in unmodified condition with all original elements. It stocks electric seat adjustment, its original radio, on-board computer, dual-zone climate control, and power-operated windows. The exterior is highlighted by a set of silver 17-inch turbine-style alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo tyres.
This car was delivered brand new to BMW Concessionaires Hong Kong in August 1990. The second owner personally-imported the vehicle in 1998 to Queensland and the vehicle was Australian-complied in August 1998. It now stands as a six-owner car and was selected by the Gosford Classic Car museum as a display piece for its originality and presentation. The car has been maintained through Autologic and SouthernBM (both BMW specialists) in Victoria. The last service was completed earlier this month at SouthernBM where it received a clean bill of health.
Exterior-wise, this E34 M5 presents remarkably well for its age. The Calypso Red paintwork glosses beautifully in the light and shows true reflections, while all accompanying exterior trimwork shows in good order. Some minor paint imperfections are identified on the vehicle’s lower splitters and mirrors, though these are considered normal for the mileage this car has done. All four wheels show no signs of curb rash and the Toyo tyres show a decent amount of tread remaining.
The interior condition displays similarly tidy to the car’s exterior. The light leather interior shows no major marks of wear or discolouration, while the dash has fared incredibly well with no signs of cracks or damage. Some more obvious signs of use are seen on the front seat bolsters and base, and the door card leather seems to have sagged with age. The M-Tech 2 leather steering wheel shows in good order, as does the factory M gear shifter, plus the cabin switchgear all functions as expected.
This vehicle will be supplied with a comprehensive service history and receipts, a set of new Michelin tyres, and a road worthy certificate if sold within Victoria.
