1987 Mercedes-Benz (W126) 560SEC
This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC is an Australian-delivered top-of-the-line example which has undergone complete authorised dealership servicing since new. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.5-litre V8 engine which sends 221kW (296hp) to the rear wheels. A four-speed automatic transmission allows this vehicle to sprint from zero to 100km/h in 7.0 seconds and run on to a 250km/h top speed. This example currently shows 163,223km on its odometer since new.
The Mercedes-Benz W126 series made its debut in 1981 as the second-generation S-Class. This generation also included the arrival of a two-door coupe body style, designated as the C126. It brought a new sense of grand touring style to the upmarket luxury class, being described as one of the most quintessential Mercedes-Benz coupes of all time. In 1986 Mercedes-Benz added a top-spec variant in the 560SEC, which brought a large 5.6-litre V8 engine and re-engineered components including suspension upgrades in order to cope with the boost in power. In today’s market the flagship 560SEC is hard to come by and revered for its exclusivity and expense when new. It is described as one of the most-beautiful prestige coupes in the world.
This car is painted in its original Signal Red colour and is upholstered inside with light cream leather. The exterior condition is highlighted by a grey two-tone lower portion which surrounds the car in its entirety. It presents in original condition with no modifications to the engine, gearbox, exhaust, suspension, or interior. The only non-standard addition involves the 18-inch chrome Lorinser wheels which are a period correct add-on for the car. The tyres are Pirelli P Zero Rossos.
This vehicle was built in March 1987 and delivered new to its first Melbourne owner in June 1987. It is a four-owner vehicle which has always been serviced through official Mercedes-Benz dealerships, while it has also benefitted from proper care including constant garaging. The current owner has been caretaker of the vehicle for nearly 20 years, where the latter 10 years have seen it used at the owner’s Queensland holiday home. Recent works include new rubbers in the front and rear suspension, new gaskets for the gearbox, plus new oil pan gasket. Its most recent maintenance was completed in January 2021.
The exterior condition is described as superb, owing to the car always being garaged. The Signal Red paintwork shows in beautiful order throughout, with no obvious sign of imperfection or damage. The vehicle has had one small dent removed in years prior – no other accident damage is known on this car. No curb rash markings are seen on any of the four Lorinser wheels and the Pirelli tyres show a good amount of tread remaining.
Similarly, the interior presentation of this example is near-immaculate. The cream leather upholstery retains its original condition and shape impressively well for the car’s age and mileage, while all trims show in complete order. There are no major signs of wear and tear inside the cabin.
This vehicle will be supplied with extensive documentation describing its history and will also come with a battery trickle charger and an additional spare for the 18-inch chrome Lorinser rims.
