1984 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0
This 1984 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 is a clean and original example of Alfa Romeo’s passion-inducing sports coupe. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which generates 96kW/178Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission that sends the GTV 2.0 from zero to 100km/h in just over 8.0 seconds. This example currently displays a modest 60,078km since new.
Intended to modernise the Alfa Romeo 105 Series, the Alfetta (which came to be known simply as the GTV 2.0) is a two-door sports coupe that far exceeded its predecessor’s character and design. Many technical advances were made with the GTV including the weight-distributed rear position of its transaxle, the De Dion tube independent rear suspension, and a low centre of gravity. In 1980 a facelift came along sporting updated styling and subtle mechanical changes. While there is no doubt to the GTV’s sporting intentions, the car remained practical enough to fill the back seats with passengers and – conversely to wider opinion – reliable if maintained well.
Finished in a two-tone red-over-silver colour combination, the spec of this car is period-classic and very befitting of a fast Alfa. The interior is upholstered in grey cloth. The car currently rides on a set of original 15-inch silver-faced wheels wrapped in Toyo tyres. A woodgrain sports steering wheel is fitted and a digital clock is seen atop the dash (can be easily removed).
This Australian-delivered GTV 2.0 was complied in Australia in May 1984 and delivered new shortly thereafter. The current owner purchased the car from its previous Victorian owner in early 2020. Beforehand, the car was owned by a NSW resident who completed a series of restorative works including paint, panel beating, and brakes around 2010. This car has travelled just 6500km in the 10 years since. More recent maintenance work has been completed by Alfa specialists Il Bolide Rosso in Victoria, and the last major service was completed at Peter Stevens Auto (VIC) in June 2020 where it received a clean bill of health.
The exterior condition of this Alfa should be considered very good for its age. The red paintwork presents in good condition with a nice amount of reflection, and all exterior trims look to have been taken care of. The paintwork could benefit from a thorough detail to iron out some swirl marks, though it presents well overall. The owner notes a minor stone chip on the front of the bonnet. Some light weathering and paint flaking can be seen on the lower bits of silver. All four wheels show next to no signs of curb rash and the Toyo tyres have a good amount of tread remaining.
Interior-wise, this Alfa presents in decent, original condition. Considering its age, the seats and trims do need some minor TLC. The driver’s seat shows some wear on the upper right corner, while the rears are in good condition – but could use some new stitching around the centre. The dashboard shows in fair order and the carpeting all presents well. All accompanying documentation and two sets of keys will be supplied with this car.
