1979 Ferrari 400i Automatic
This 1979 Ferrari 400i Automatic is a complete and original example of one of Ferrari’s most accessible models. It is powered by a 4.8-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine which sends 228kW (306hp) to the rear wheels. This powertrain is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission which allows the 400i to run from zero to 100km/h in 8.2 seconds. This example currently displays 17,432km on its odometer.
Ferrari ownership needn’t be restricted to those without kids or to people with an aversion to manual gearboxes. The four-seat Ferrari 400i came about in 1979 featuring an equally-inspiring 4.8-litre V12 engine, and carried on from where the Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 left off. This changeover also included a revised interior, a set of new taillights, five-stud wheels, and a distinctive new front spoiler lip. The Ferrari 400i is known for its approachable drive qualities and its relative affordability when compared to its contemporary Ferrari stablemates. This car is a fuel-injected Ferrari 400i model, which aided economy and featured lavish materials and equipment for its era.
Finished in silver with a blue leather-upholstered interior, this 400i features a sophisticated specification befitting of its grand-touring nature. The Pininfarina-designed body is adorned by chrome trim on the exterior, while the cabin is accentuated by woodgrain trim elements. It is fitted with an aftermarket exhaust to enhance the V12 engine’s character. The car currently rides on a set of 15-inch five-spoke Ferrari wheels painted in silver and wrapped in Michelin rubber.
This pristine example has enjoyed thorough servicing throughout its life and a small number of caretakers. The current owner purchased it from a Queensland-based doctor 12 months ago, where it remained for some years prior. The current owner describes recent maintenance work taking place at a local mechanic workshop and says it runs and drives very well for its age. It is believed that the odometer has been around once given it can only display 5 numbers. It has just been fitted with brand-new tyres and the wheels have recently been repainted by Wheel Solutions in Cremorne, VIC. The body appears to have been repainted in recent years, while the owner also suggests the car has undergone an engine rebuild in years prior.
Presenting very tidily for its age, this Ferrari’s silver paintwork shows minimal signs of damage and wear. It reflects lights beautifully, while the chrome exterior trim also shows in good order for its age. No obvious signs of damage or paint chipping is observed on its bodywork. All badging and trim appears in good shape which makes for a complete and originally-presented car. All four wheels show in excellent condition, having been repainted recently, while the tyres are brand new.
Likewise, the interior of this car appears in excellent order. All interior attributes show in clean and unmarked condition, while the blue leather upholstery holds up well in terms of shape and condition. The seats do show signs of creasing and wear, though this should be considered normal for the car’s vintage. Though the dash, dials, and instrumentation displays in good condition and working order, the underside of the dash is missing its cover. Carpeting throughout the car looks to be in fine order.
This car will be supplied with tool kit, books, recent receipts, and pictures of its engine rebuild.
