1976 Holden Torana SLR5000 Tribute
This 1976 Holden Torana SL/R 5000 tribute car is a faithful reproduction of an Australian icon, complete with an extensive list of performance modifications. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 355 cubic inch (5.8-litre) V8 engine which sends 447kW (600hp) to the rear wheels. This powertrain is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The car currently displays 241,457km on its odometer.
Made famous through motorsport success at Mount Panorama, the Holden Torana SL/R 5000 dominated the local Group C touring car series and is noted among Aussie car enthusiasts for its swagger and fun-loving character. Where Monaros of the era were sold to more discerning types, the Torana was all fun and games with loud looks and equally ostentatious paintjobs. It wasn’t until the LX update that the Torana really started to come into its own, winning races left, right, and centre in A9X application. Holden Toranas are some of the most highly-sought after Australian classic cars, with enthusiasts paying top dollar for complete, original-looking examples.
This car’s fitting specification pairs Barbados Green paintwork with black accents, while the interior is upholstered in black vinyl. The car sports SL/R 5000 styling including pumped guards and rear duck-tail spoiler, plus it scores the large air dam on the bonnet. The car rides on a set of black/chrome 14-inch Holden wheels wrapped in Sumitomo/Firenza tyres. Performance mods include a five-speed Tremec TKO transmission, nine-inch diff, 750 xp Holley carburettor, and fuel pump.
Originally delivered new in 1977 as a four-cylinder LX Torana, this tribute car has benefitted from wide-ranging upgrades which see it present – and drive – much like the real deal. A 308ci engine was stroked to 355ci for this build, while all performance mods listed above were installed by Allan Ross Mechanical Repairs. The car has recently benefitted from professional paint detailing. The most recent service was completed six months ago as part of scheduled maintenance. No items of concern were raised.
The exterior condition of this SL/R 5000 recreation presents excellently. The lime green paintjob reflects light beautifully, as seen in photos, while black accenting sets off the tough look. Some of the chrome trim displays some minor peppering weather marks, however this should be considered normal for the car’s age and mileage. There are very few minor marks to be seen throughout, while the owner describes no rust on this car. Some of the wheels display small curb rash damage, but the tyres show a decent amount of tread remaining.
Interior-wise, this car shows in beautifully-kept order. The black vinyl seats present in excellent condition, the door cards look immaculate, and the dash is virtually unmarked. The original radio sits within the dash, plus aftermarket Auto Meter gauges have been fitted. Some exposed wires can be seen in the driver’s footwell due to missing shrouding. There isn’t much to a Torana interior, but this car’s cabin displays in fantastic condition considering its age and mileage.
This car will be sold with two sets of keys and appropriate registration documentation.
