1974 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1300

This 1974 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1300 is a turn-key matching numbers example as well as a multiple award winner. Under the bonnet is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine producing 60kW. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 36,000km from new.

With this Giulia Super, Alfa Romeo was one of the first car manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a lightweight four-door car – what we know today as a sports sedan. Despite a modest engine size, the Giulia is a classic example of impressive acceleration and lively handling, especially when compared to cars of its era. Although its boxy styling may seem counterintuitive, use of a wind tunnel during development led to a low aerodynamic drag coefficient Cd = 0.34.

This car was first delivered to Salisbury, Rhodesia in late 1974, before making its way to Australia in 1983. It is now a four-owner car and has received good care from Alfa Romeo collectors and mechanics throughout its life. This car has won multiple awards for its originality, most notably taking out an Alfa Romeo Spettacolo Concorso win.

This well-kept car was configured from new with the desirable combination of Bianco Spina paintwork over contrasting Alfa Skai red interior. It equips the period-correct 14-inch Campagnolo GTA alloy wheels wrapped in new Pirelli Cinturato 36 tyres. Of course, it displays the iconic Alfa Romeo cloverleaf on the front quarter panel.

A well-documented history dates back to its original owner with first registration papers, owners handbook, servicing booklets and original keys. Supplied with the sale will be an extensive catalogue of receipts describing $50,000 in mechanical and restoration works.

This vehicle presents in excellent condition, having only travelled 1000km in the time since its restoration in 2017. Local classic Alfa specialist Michael Cipriani sourced parts for the restoration from renowned UK firms Alfaholics and Classic Alfa. Completed works include a rebuilt original engine, gearbox and twin Dellorto carburettors. Completely new suspension components, Alfaholics stainless steel exhaust and Alfaholics GTA ram-pipes round out the changes.

Interior condition is in great shape, with tight red leather and a period woodgrain steering wheel and dash. Cabin lights work well and all switchgear functions correctly. Uncracked Veglia dials and a Jaeger clock feature in the instrument binnacle.

Following this Alfa’s extensive mechanical restoration by Michael Cipriani of Ital Motors, its current owner has had all subsequent servicing performed by that workshop. The last service was completed in late February 2020 where it received a run-in service and re-tension of cylinder heads.

In addition to all modifications, this car is being sold with parts such as the original factory suspension (could easily be restored to factory ride height), restored original 14-inch steel wheels with new tyres, original factory air box/parts for the carbies and fitted Alfaholics car cover. Also included with the sale is a full tool roll and spare wheel.
