THE AUCTION IS UNDER PROXY BIDDING
1969 Morris Mini Deluxe
This 1969 Morris Mini Deluxe is a totally original example of an Australian-built Mark 1 Mini presenting in its factory-specified green colour scheme. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 998cc (1.0-litre) four-cylinder engine which sends power through the front wheels. A four-speed manual transmission is mated to this vehicle. The odometer currently displays 24,837 miles.
Most people recognise the Mini as an iconic British car whose nameplate continues to this day, but fewer know that its history is intrinsically tied to Australia. Australians love the small, practical nature of the silhouette and were fans of its frugal powertrain. The fact it was built in Australia helps its cause locally too. A select group of Minis, much like this car for sale, were manufactured in Australia from 1959 until 1970. Four wheels pushed to each corner of the body allowed the original Mini to be an excellent handling small car, while maximising interior space. The Morris Mini Deluxe is an affordable way to enter classic Mini ownership, with low kilometre original examples such as this one becoming an increasingly rare find.
Finished in the original colour of Malmo Green, this Mini is upholstered inside with green touches to continue the theme. The exterior is highlighted with chrome detailing, while the interior features beige carpeting. Specific to this Mini is a set of redesigned interior door handles, wind-up windows with quarter vents, and hydrolastic suspension. It presents in all-original condition without having been repainted, reupholstered, or modified. The car currently rides on a set of 10-inch chrome-capped wheels, wrapped in Kumho tyres.
Built new in the Sydney-based Zetland facility, this Mini was sold new through Dave Johnson Motors in Fremantle, WA in January 1969. It’s a matching numbers example which has gone completely unrestored since new and has spent its entire life inside Western Australia. The owner states the vehicle comes with extensive paperwork and service receipts which document modern maintenance.
The exterior presentation of this vehicle has been kept in pristine condition since new. The original Malmo Green paintwork displays without imperfection and continues to reflect nicely in the right light. Some signs of patina are beginning to show on areas such as the under rails, exhaust and side mirrors, adding to this car’s vintage character. Chrome exterior trim of the grille and bumpers presents in beautifully polished condition. The wheels appear in polished order without obvious damage and tyres appear to retain a good amount of tread.
Inside the cabin this Mini shows in impressive condition as having been fully re-trimmed within the last 12 months. The vinyl seats display in nice shape with no tears, creases, or splitting, while the carpeting also shows without significant staining and damage. A cassette radio is found mounted below the dash and the original dash cluster appears to be in good order. Likewise, the dash and headlining show no major signs of deterioration.
This car will come with original documentation including the original bill of sale, original BMC handbook, service and registration receipts, and modern service receipts.
