1967 Ford Mustang GTA Fastback
This 1967 Ford Mustang GTA (Fastback) is a rare one-year-only special with matching numbers and a recent restoration. Under the bonnet is a naturally-aspirated 390 cubic inch (6.4-litre) V8 which sends 238kW (320hp) to the rear wheels. The transmission in this car is a three-speed automatic. The odometer currently displays 156 miles.
The Ford Mustang is arguably one of the most iconic cars of all time – let alone its reputation as a ground-breaking muscle car. Its iconic design was introduced in 1964, said to be inspired by the P51 Mustang fighter, and it quickly became Ford’s premier showroom product. It achieved sales success almost instantaneously, selling a million units in just two years on sale. It spurred other manufacturers to introduce their own icons such as the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. Ford continued innovating by applying the first major makeover in 1967. The interior was heavily revised with more luxurious touches and a slew of competitive features were added to the package. But 1967 was the first and only year that Ford manufactured the Mustang GTA. The GTA introduced the big-block S-Code 390ci V8 with an automatic transmission. This is one of the most desirable first-generation Mustang variants today and is recognised as a real collector’s item.
Painted red (with white stripes) on the exterior and upholstered with black vinyl trim inside the cabin, this Mustang GTA presents a desirable colour combination on a rare variant. New chrome trim highlights the exterior and brushed aluminium inlays are seen inside the cabin. The car also features a GT 14-bolt cylinder head, C6 Select Shift automatic transmission, and a 9.0-inch diff. It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tyres.
This car was built new in San Jose, California on 3 January, 1967. It is accompanied by a Marti report documenting its history. The current owner has spared no expense in maintaining this vehicle to a high standard, exhibited through the large cache of receipts. The car also underwent a restoration four years ago, retaining matching-numbers parts for originality. There are no known issues with the car which is said to present in showroom condition. It has travelled just 150km since the restoration.
Exterior bodywork shows in immaculate order for its age. The red paintwork displays great, consistent reflections and no signs of swirl marking are seen in the finish. Likewise, the body contains no chips or scratches. The chrome bumpers and trimwork is polished to a high shine, and aspects such as the grille and lights are remarkably clean. All four wheels are polished and show no signs of kerb rash, as the tyres retain deep tread.
Inside the cabin this Mustang has been well-cared for. The black vinyl upholstery is unmarked of any scuff scratches or creasing, while the seats retain an immaculate original shape. Door cards and dash trim have been kept in good order without noticeable scuff marks. Carpeting is clean of any kind of staining or tears.
All accompanying documentation will be supplied with this Mustang’s sale.
