1967 Ford Mustang GT500E "Eleanor"
This 1967 Ford Mustang GT500E “Eleanor” is a real life movie legend and a faithful replica using the Mustang Fastback 2+2 shape. Under the bonnet is a 351 Cleveland 5.8-litre V8 engine with a mild cam that produces a strong 260kW/350hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a near-new Tremec TKO five-speed H-pattern manual transmission. This car shows 28,685 miles on the odometer.
Born from the Gone in 60 Seconds movie, the Mustang GT500E takes the standard Shelby GT500 and adds a customised body kit designed by Steve Sanford and Chip Foose. It was famously the 50th and final high-end car to be stolen during the film’s 24-hour-long heist. While not one of the genuine cinema-used GT500Es that have been known to change hands for multiple millions, this Eleanor presents just as well as the hero car did on the silver screen.
Featuring a reverse Eleanor colour scheme, black with Pepper Grey stripes, this GT500E was converted in the USA in 2007 under licence. In recent years the interior has been overhauled with black leather and silver trim. Notice the full Eleanor body kit that features one piece side skirts and full polished side-exit exhausts. Modifications include a Tremec TKO five-speed gearbox, Mal Wood clutch and actuator (replaced in 2019), 9-inch differential with 3.7 gears, TCP rear spring suspension, full extractors polished side-exit exhaust, Wilwood front disc brakes, and Borgeson power steering.
Built in the United States in 2007 and imported direct to its first owner, this car has undergone a full rebuild in preparation to convert it to Eleanor status. The current owner has driven this car less than 500km since he bought it in 2021, and its use was limited even before that.
The car presents beautifully both inside and out, though the stunning black paintwork and Pepper Grey stripes on the exterior are arguably one of the car’s greatest assets. It has recently undergone a full 37-hour detail package resulting in a concours-like end product. All chrome silver exterior trim is perfect and the car wears a set of unmarked 17-inch Eleanor wheels wrapped in Bridgestone tyres. A good amount of tread remains on all four tyres.
Like the exterior, the inside of this GT500E presents immaculately. The dash is fully original, there is full Shelby badging throughout the cabin and the steering column-mounted Shelby tacho is in great condition. The woodgrain steering wheel is polished and it has just had new gear linkages and a new Speco gear knob fitted. The black leather upholstery is still tight and looks great and, for its age, the rest of the interior is in excellent condition.
The car underwent a thorough no-expense-spared reconditioning in 2018 with Nicks Autos in Perth where numerous bits and pieces were addressed. It was most recently serviced last month where the Holley carbs were overhauled and the water pump and 70-amp alternator were replaced.
Original owners manuals and documentation will be supplied with the car, as will a Shelby car cover and an Eleanor spare wheel.
