1967 Ford Mustang GT500CS "Eleanor"
This 1967 Ford Mustang GT500 Eleanor is a stunning example that builds upon the distinct look of a movie legend. Under the bonnet is a Ford 427cc small block high performance V8 engine with electronic fuel injection, currently outputting 372kW (500hp) to the rear wheels. The car is fitted with a Tremec TKO five-speed H-pattern manual transmission. It has travelled just 7,500km since its 2012 restoration.
Made famous through the Gone in 60 Seconds film franchise, the Eleanor Mustang built upon the standard Mustang GT500 with a custom body kit designed by Steve Sanford and Chip Foose. Reproductions of the movie favourite have become popular following the film’s success, and widow of original filmmaker Denice Halicki granted select firms the chance to manufacture remakes. While original movie-used examples have been known to cross auction blocks for millions, this unique take on the design looks just as impressive as the real deal.
This right-hand-drive GT500 Eleanor is painted in Candy Apple Red and features Wimbledon White contrasting GT stripes. The interior is upholstered in black leather. An extensive list of mechanical and styling mods have been added to this car. It is fitted with a 3-inch stainless steel exhaust with side-exit pipes, custom air scoops in the rear guards, custom Shelby GT500 bonnet, keyless entry system with alarm function, billet details inside the engine and under-bonnet LED lighting. The car also equips a Clarion touch-screen sound system with integrated reversing camera, satellite navigation and 10-inch subwoofers. The car rides on a set of 17-inch Shelby Cobra wheels wrapped in Nitto 245/45R17 (front) and Nitto 315/35R17 tyres (rear).
Mechanically, this Eleanor Mustang equips electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition for reliable starting and running. The small block Ford 427 engine was sourced from BluePrint Engines and uses high-quality internals which are said to handle over 600hp. The rear axle contains a Chassisworks FAB 9 TruTrack 9-inch differential and Total Control Products four-link coil suspension with adjustable VariShocks. Steering control is provided through a TCP rack and pinion power steering unit.
Having undergone a complete nut-and-bolt restoration following its importation to New Zealand in 2012, this car received VASS import approval to follow its owner to Australia in 2018. Classic Speed Restorations in the Phillipines carried out all restorative works in 2012, though the vehicle has continued to be worked upon since. It has appeared in magazines and won a number of awards including “Most Outstanding Shelby Mustang” at the 2018 Mustang Round Up in Victoria and a New Zealand Top Teams Event at Concours d’Elegance.
Exterior condition is close to immaculate, with stunning Candy Apple Red paintwork shining flawlessly and with no known damage. All exterior chrome trim looks perfect, and the billet machined parts are in fantastic shape. All four Shelby wheels are unmarked of any damage and the Nitto tyres they’re fitted with retain a deep tread depth.
Like the outside, the interior looks smart and presents in great condition. The black leather seats, door cards and dash all show minimal signs of wear and all other componentry holds up very well. The car features a Hurst H-pattern shifter, Auto Meter gauges and black carpeting.
The car will come with all listed parts and modifications as well as an extensive breakdown of works completed. Receipt documentation details the car’s history, engineering approvals and importation, all of which will be supplied with a successful sale.
