1967 Ford Mustang Convertible
This 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible is a sorted example with a number of subtle modifications. It is powered by an upgraded 302 ci (5.0-litre) V8 engine which, from factory, outputs 244kW to the rear wheels. This powertrain is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer shows 11,221 miles since the engine was fitted.
Arguably the most famous muscle car ever, the Ford Mustang was first introduced to the world in 1964. Design goals were to have it seat four people, have bucket seats, equip a floor-mounted shifter, and to have multiple power, comfort and luxury options. It quickly became popular, taking just two years to sell a million cars. The success of its launch prompted the arrival of a muscle car revolution which included the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger and Pontiac Firebird. To combat the incoming competition, Ford brought the first major update to the car in 1967 which addressed styling features, size and proportions and allowed for a larger engine.
This Mustang is finished in a red over black colour combination and features a cream coloured soft-top roof. It has undergone a full bare metal respray, though much of the car remains original – or can be returned to factory specification. It rides on a set of 18-inch five spoke Riddler wheels. Where most Mustangs of its era used a 289ci V8 engine, this example is powered by a larger capacity 302ci V8 with a Holley 650 carburettor. Other mechanical changes include a conversion from four to five stud wheels, disc brakes all round and it has been tuned.
Originally imported into Australia from the United States in 2011, this car has subsequently had three Australian owners. It has been owned by the current owner since 2012. It has enjoyed regular servicing through MC2 Automotive in Dandenong, Victoria. This Mustang has been well looked after by its current owner – washed every weekend, stored in a garage and rarely driven in the rain.
The exterior paintwork on this Mustang is largely unmarked, save for one small bubble on the rear boot lid. All chrome trim shines and is in good condition. The soft top roof is wearing in some places as it’s original. Four chrome wheels are in perfect condition and the fitted white wall tyres have a deep amount of tread.
Interior condition is best described as fair. The interior has kept its originality with the factory dash, steering wheel, gauges and trim. The seats have held up well over the course of its life with minimal stress marks or sagging. A rev counter has been added on the centre stack and an aftermarket head unit takes place of the original. All four lap sash seat belts remain in fine condition.
A history of service work will come with the car, as will documentation including parts invoices and service receipts. The personalised Victorian plates will come with the car if sold to a Victorian bidder.
