1954 Chevrolet (C1) Corvette
This 1954 Chevrolet Corvette (C1) is a certified American classic displaying in restored condition. It is powered by a 3.9-litre inline six-cylinder engine outputting 110kW (150hp) to the rear wheels through a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Chevrolet states that the C1 Corvette can run from zero to 100km/h in 11.5 seconds. This example currently displays 75,976 miles on its odometer.
The idea behind the Chevrolet Corvette was to design an all-American sports car for returned World War II soldiers who were coming home with MGs, Alfa Romeos, and Jaguars. The concept was unveiled in 1953 and rushed into production on the back of enthusiastic public reception. It utilised standing parts from Chevrolet’s regular car lines, but was hand built at a facility in Flint, Michigan. Little did General Motors know at the time, but they had just kicked off one of Chevrolet’s longest-running nameplates.
Finished in Burnt Copper metallic over cream vinyl upholstery, this Corvette presents like a show car and runs like new. These early example C1 Corvettes featured a 55-degree raked windscreen made from safety glass, drum brakes, and a rear licence plate holder with plastic window. A set of 17-inch chrome Boyd Coddington wheels has been added to this car, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tyres. This car also equips a cream soft-top roof and chrome exterior trim throughout.
This car was built in 1954 and retained by its original owners until 2003. Since then, it has passed through one additional person before being offered for auction today. The second owner commissioned a complete restoration, leaving no stone unturned. It retains all the correct mechanical components including carburettors and air cleaners. Its condition has won multiple awards including the Bright Rod Run and Principal’s Choice at Loyola Car Show. Today, the car is maintained by Corvette Clinic as part of a large muscle car collection.
Its exterior condition is described as excellent, with metallic deep red exterior bodywork reflecting effortlessly in the sun. There are no known nicks, marks or scratches to the paintwork, which has been kept in good order since brand new. Chrome exterior detailing shines brightly, having regularly been polished along with the rest of the car. Next to no damage can be seen on the chrome wheels and the Goodyear tyres show a great amount of tread remaining.
The interior presents similarly immaculate. The dash, steering wheel, and door cards show no damage and the upholstery looks as-new. Carpets in the cabin and boot show no staining, particularly impressive given this Corvette’s age. Roof functionality and chrome-surround windows can easily be fitted to the car when required. The car retains its original radio, though it does not function.
