1998 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera Cabriolet
This 1998 Porsche 911 (996) Cabriolet is a tidy and complete example of Porsche’s turn-of-the-century sports car. It is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six-cylinder engine outputting 221kW/350Nm to the rear wheels. It comes equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission which propels the 996 Cabriolet from zero to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds. This example currently shows 105,409km on the odometer.
The 996-generation Porsche 911 had little common with its predecessor and took Porsche from the brink of financial ruin back to the black. It debuted a number of new technologies, an all-new chassis platform, and a new water-cooled engine. Development was shared with the then-new Boxster, though the 911 remained the flagship product by utilising more high-end componentry and an enlarged engine capacity. While the 996 generation was a large departure from the norm for Porsche, trademark 911 driving characteristics such as the iconic flat-six engine sound and agile handling remained.
This example is finished in a dark blue metallic which pairs with a beige leather interior. It presents in largely original condition, retaining the factory 18-inch ‘Turbo Twist’ wheels in silver and a body-coloured soft-top roof. This car also includes the hard-top which can be used interchangeably instead of the soft-top. A fire extinguisher is equipped underneath the driver’s seat.
Only owned by three people since new, this car has been kept in fantastic running order throughout its life. The current owner purchased the car in 2007. This car was serviced almost exclusively at Porsche Melbourne, save for one scheduled service which was completed at Auto Art Porsche specialists in Preston, Victoria. No major repair works have been needed on this car; the soft-top rear windscreen was replaced just a few years ago.
Dark blue metallic paint presents very nicely for its age. It still shines brightly in the sun and no major marks or scratches can be seen on the car’s paintwork – though it could benefit from a thorough detail. Some parts around the soft-top have weathered with age, but this car presents nicely overall. There is some fair scratching to the wheels, though all four Pirelli P Zero tyres retain a deep amount of tread depth.
The interior condition of this 996 Cabriolet is very good, having just been restored by BM Leather Creations in Melbourne. The leather of the seats is clean and unmarked, while the seats themselves hold their original shape well. There is some wear and tear observed around the centre console and on the door handles. All features function as intended including the electric seats, climate control, and soft-top. An Alpine head unit takes place of the original.
All accompanying documentation, receipts, and manuals will be supplied with a successful sale. The car will come with the associated hard-top and factory spare wheel.
